What continuity or new developments do you perceive between the two pontificates? <\/h4>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I\u2019d say three words: continuity, orig\u00adinality, and transformation. <br\/>There\u2019s continuity because Pope Leo has embraced everything Pope Francis began. Originality, because he has a different personality and history, and lives the pontificate in a different way. <br\/>Francis was a prophetic, radical Pope who surprised us daily. Leo, on the other hand, is a pontiff sent by the Holy Spirit to consolidate and recon\u00adcile. His inner peace brings peace to others. From the very first moment, when he spoke of \u201cdisarmed and disarming peace,\u201d I knew that phrase reflected who he is.      <\/p>\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Pope Francis promoted greater lay and female participation in leader\u00adship roles in the Holy See through the Apostolic Constitution<em> Praed\u00adicate Evangelium<\/em>. How do you in\u00adterpret this, and what steps do you think Pope Leo might take? <\/h4>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Praedicate Evangelium was a major shift. The Curia, which used to act as an entity between the Pope and the bishops, now serves both. It\u2019s a structure placed beneath, like Christ washing the feet of his apostles. This opens the door for laypeople\u2014men and women, religious or not\u2014to of\u00adfer their service if they are properly trained. <br\/>Pope Francis already made signif\u00adicant strides in this direction, and Pope Leo will continue along that path. There\u2019s still much to be done, but women must prepare them\u00adselves to better serve the Church.     <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For me, Pilar Bellosillo was always a luminous figure. As president of WUCWO, she often reminded us that although the Church\u2019s teaching on women is excellent, there\u2019s still a large gap between theory and prac\u00adtice. That\u2019s why she dedicated so much effort to promoting greater fe\u00admale ecclesial presence.  <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I believe Pope Leo will continue ap\u00adpointing women to key positions in the Curia. At the same time, he has made it clear that he will uphold the Church\u2019s teaching on the sacrament of Holy Orders: during his pontificate, the or\u00addination of women\u2014whether to the priesthood or the diaconate\u2014is not foreseen. <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">However, the entire field of ministries\u2014ordained and non-or\u00addained\u2014remains open, where prop\u00aderly trained women can continue to take on increasingly significant roles.<\/p>\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Recently, the 60th anniver\u00adsary of <em>Nostra Aetate<\/em> on religious freedom was cel\u00adebrated, one of WUCWO\u2019s current resolutions. How can we help promote it? <\/h4>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Pope Leo recently said that religious freedom \u201cis not optional, but the cornerstone of a just society.\u201d <em>Nos\u00adtra Aetate<\/em> marked a 360-degree shift: we went from speaking of \u201cperfidious Jews\u201d to recognising them as \u201celder brothers,\u201d and from calling other Christians \u201cheretics\u201d to considering them broth\u00aders.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And it\u2019s not just a matter of ter\u00adminology\u2014WUCWO women must uphold the right to religious freedom in every country, especially where persecution is implicit or explicit.<\/p>\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">You\u2019re part of the Synod\u2019s Ordinary Council. How can WUCWO con\u00adtribute to this new phase of synod\u00adal implementation? <\/h4>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I believe WUCWO is particular\u00adly well-prepared. It has already launched a School of Synodality and, through the World Women\u2019s Observatory, understands the fruits of working synodally. <br\/>We can offer training to women, priests, and young people to foster active listening, discernment, and walking together. <br\/>Synodality isn\u2019t imposed from above\u2014it arises from below, from each community. Every woman, even in small parish tasks, can help walk synodally through conversations in the Spirit. I like to compare it to hon\u00adey: when it spills, it spreads and per\u00admeates everything. That\u2019s how syno\u00addality should extend throughout the Church.      <\/p>\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Finally, how do WUCWO\u2019s resolu\u00adtions on integral ecology and family connect with Pope Leo\u2019s priorities?<\/h4>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I recall a powerful image. During the commemoration of the ten-year an\u00adniversary of Laudato Si\u2019, Pope Leo blessed a piece of ice brought from the North Pole. He placed his hands on it and said: \u201cI cannot love God, whom I do not see, if I do not love creation, where God reveals Him\u00adself.\u201d That gesture sums up his vi\u00adsion: caring for our common home is part of the Christian DNA. If WUCWO women care for our homes and families, we can also care for the planet. And we\u2019ll do it by living syn\u00adodality within the family: through dialogue, silence, listening, and shared discernment. Only then can we achieve the seven goals of the Laudato Si\u2019 Platform and contribute, in communion, to the good of all cre\u00adation.      <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity is-style-wide\"\/>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Mar\u00eda L\u00eda Zervino, <em>Servidora<\/em><\/h4>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>Mar\u00eda L\u00eda Zervino began her journey with WUCWO (World Union of Catholic Women\u2019s Orga\u00adnisations) in Rome twelve years ago, when she was invited during the presidency of Maria Giovanna Ruggieri to take on the role of Secretary General. She brought editorial experience as head of La Voz de las Mujeres, a mission she carried out through the Argentine Association of Culture, where she belongs as a Consecrated Virgin of the Ordo Virginum Servidoras. At the General Assembly in Senegal, she was elected president. She affirms that WUCWO has been a true school of life for her: faith, courage, cultural diversity, and the deep love for the Church shown by its women. Her path took an unexpected turn when Pope Francis appointed her to the Dicastery for Bishops and the Ordinary Council of the Synod, where she has worked closely with Cardinal Robert Francis Prevost, now Pope Leo XIV.    <\/em><\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">WUCWO Communication Office<\/h4>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Mar\u00eda L\u00eda, you\u2019ve had a close rela\u00adtionship with Pope Francis and now with Pope Leo.
