{"id":20538,"date":"2026-08-26T16:30:23","date_gmt":"2026-08-26T14:30:23","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/wucwo.org\/?p=20538"},"modified":"2026-08-26T17:10:34","modified_gmt":"2026-08-26T15:10:34","slug":"beginning-of-the-season-of-creation","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/wucwo.org\/en\/beginning-of-the-season-of-creation\/","title":{"rendered":"Beginning of the Season of Creation"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">On <strong>September 1<\/strong>, we celebrate the <strong>World Day of Prayer for Creation<\/strong>, which marks the beginning of the <strong>Season of Creation<\/strong>, a period that extends until <strong>October 4<\/strong>, the Feast of Saint Francis of Assisi.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This time invites us to come together in prayer and action for our <strong>Common Home<\/strong>, renewing our commitment to caring for creation and to living a more sustainable lifestyle.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Resources for celebrating<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We are sharing some <strong>useful resources<\/strong> to support your parishes, dioceses and networks in celebrating this important occasion. We encourage you to use them and share them within your communities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-buttons is-content-justification-center is-layout-flex wp-container-core-buttons-is-layout-fe48e5de wp-block-buttons-is-layout-flex\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-button\"><a class=\"wp-block-button__link has-text-align-center wp-element-button\" href=\"https:\/\/worlddaycreation.com\/en\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Explore the resources<\/a><\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>A reflection for this Season of Creation by Karen De Sousa, Coordinator of WUCWO\u2019s Ecology Working Group<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>As we reflect on the final year of our campaign for WUCWO women to plant a tree for our planet, we celebrate <strong>67,361 new trees<\/strong> absorbing <strong>1,684,025 kg of carbon dioxide each year<\/strong>, the same as powering about 240 homes or driving 366 cars per year.\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>An achievement to be proud of but we still have more to do.\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>Pope Francis\u2019 encyclical calls us to have a <strong>change of heart<\/strong>, to change how we think, how we live. He called on us to live more simply. Saint Oscar Romero said this too and we remember his famous words: <strong>\u201cAspire not to HAVE more, but to BE more\u201d.\u00a0\u00a0<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em><strong>This Season of Creation<\/strong> we are asked to focus on water, how precious it is. Planting our trees helps stop soil erosion, helps to improve soil and allow for water to soak into the earth rather than running off and flooding.
