Today, through the Bollettino della Sala Stampa della Santa Sede, the nomination of Mónica Santamarina, President of the World Union of Catholic Women’s Organisations (WUCWO), as Consultor to theDicastery for Interreligious Dialogue has been made public.
On the occasion of this appointment, Mónica Santamarina expressed her gratitude and availability with the following words:
“I would like to sincerely thank the Dicastery for Interreligious Dialogue for the trust placed in me through this appointment. I receive it with a deep sense of responsibility and as a call to continue my formation, to deepen my knowledge and, above all, to place this entire journey in the hands of the Lord, praying that He may inspire and guide me in this new stage of service to the Church”.
She also added: “I would like to thank WUCWO for all the work it has carried out for many years in the field of interreligious dialogue, which is one of our great priorities as an organisation and as believing women committed in the world. I am convinced that today, more than ever, it is necessary to choose encounter, listening and the building of bridges, opting for dialogue rather than confrontation, seeking what unites us, our similarities and shared values, and not focusing on what divides us. Only in this way can we contribute to an authentic culture of peace, respect and fraternity among peoples and religions”.
Dicastery for Interreligious Dialogue
The Dicastery for Interreligious Dialogue is the body of the Holy See responsible for promoting and coordinating relations between the Catholic Church and the followers of other religions, fostering mutual respect, reciprocal knowledge and cooperation, as well as a culture of encounter that contributes to peace, justice and fraternity among peoples. Its mission is to promote dialogue as a path to coexistence, especially in contexts marked by cultural, social or religious tensions.
The appointment as consultant implies stable collaboration with the Dicastery by contributing one’s experience and expertise in the field of interreligious dialogue, and by taking part in reflection, study and the accompaniment of initiatives that help to build bridges between people and communities of different religious traditions, always at the service of the Church’s evangelising mission and her commitment to peace.
