On 26 and 27 October, Mónica Santamarina, President General, and Lavinia Rocchi Carrera, Secretary General, paid an official visit to WUCWO member organisations in the United Kingdom. During these days, Mónica had the opportunity to talk with some of the representatives of the member organisations, in order to learn first-hand about their challenges, achievements and local realities. This meeting served to strengthen ties, dialogue and explore ways in which WUCWO can support its members in the UK.
On Saturday 25 October, a meeting was held at CAFOD's head office with the participation of almost all WUCWO organisations in the area. The participants represented Catholic Women's League of England and Wales, Union of Catholic Mothers, National Board of Catholic Women (NBCW) and CWA Cameroon-UK. The meeting offered a moment of exchange where each organisation was able to present their latest news, what challenges they face and what their expectations are. The occasion was also taken as an opportunity to report on various issues, such as the next WUCWO European Regional Conference (2025) and the General Assembly (2027), as well as to explore how to work together to meet common goals and to look at possible new member organisations in the UK.
In addition, the meeting served to explain some of WUCWO's main issues, such as the ‘WUCWO Planting Hope’ Campaign, which encourages each organisation to plant at least one tree annually until 2027, or how to improve the communication process from WUCWO to its members and vice versa. It was a moment of closesness between the women working in their organisations and the President General in order to work together with shared and common goals.
On Sunday 26 October, the day began with a Eucharistic celebration at Blessed Sacrament Church, attended by members of the NBCW, CWA Cameroon-UK and, with the notable presence of Gillian Badoock, former WUCWO General Secretary. After the celebration, the participants enjoyed an informal gathering and a very fraternal lunch in the parish hall, where they continued to exchange impressions, future projects and news. We also prayed and sang together. Maureen Meatcher, member of the WUCWO Council in the UK and representative of the NBCW National Board of Catholic Mothers, was present at these two meetings on 25 and 26 October.
To conclude the day, Mónica and Lavinia met with the President and General Secretary of the Women's Forum of the Great Britain Syro Malabar Eparchy, exploring the possibility of joining WUCWO as a member organisation in the near future.
In short, the visit has served as a means of consolidation between WUCWO and its member organisations in the UK, seeing their needs and strengthening the bond of union, to be able to work together for the great mission to which we are called.
