In response to Pope Francis' urgent call to action in the Laudato Si encyclical, the World Union of Catholic Women’s Organisations (WUCWO) has launched a new campaign called "WUCWO Planting Hope”. This initiative stems from the commitment made at the last General Assembly, held in Assisi, where it was agreed upon the need to act in the face of the climate and environmental crisis affecting our Common Home.
The campaign invites every WUCWO woman to plant at least one tree per year until the next Assembly in 2027, with the goal of actively contributing to environmental regeneration and mitigating the effects of climate change. This simple action seeks not only to plant trees but also to sow hope for future generations, promoting respect for Creation.
WUCWO’s Ecology Working Group has designed this campaign to mobilise millions of people in different countries, emphasising that every tree planted can make a difference. This is a call to participate not only for WUCWO women but for anyone willing to join.
How?
- If you are planting a tree in your backyard have a look at our Easy Steps to Planting a Tree guide attached. It is important to choose the right species, soil and time to plant your tree and afterwards take care of the planted tree.
- If you are planning a large planting campaign, check out the longer Planting Guide that will soon be available on this website. This guide includes best practices from around the world.
- You might not need any more trees in your garden nor have anywhere to plant one. Nevertheless, you can research a good sustainable organisation that is planting trees in regions you cannot access and fund them to plant trees for you.
- Use the attached flyer: put it up or share on WhatsApp among your organisation, friends, local schools, parish and communities, encouraging them to plant a tree.
Steps to follow:
- Plant at least one tree a year, taking into account the appropriate species, terrain and time.
- Share a photo online with the hashtag #WucwoPlantingHope tagging the WUCWO networking profile on Facebook, X or Instagram
- Fill out this form to inform the Secretariat and send photographs. If you have any questions, contact the email: This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.
- Encourage others in the family, Church and community to join this initiative.
- Once planted, continue to properly care for the tree. When it comes to our planet, no act is too small or insignificant to be seen later as a step toward preserving it and its vital resources.
Join the "WUCWO Planting Hope" campaign. Together we can make a difference.
